4. What are the requirements for licensure as a PTA in the state of Florida?

5. What is the definition for supervision of a PTA in the State of Florida?
Physical Therapist Assistants who performed patient related treatment for a board certified orthopedic physician or physiatrist shall be under the general supervision of a Physical Therapist, direct supervision is not require. For other health care practitioners onsite supervision from a Physical Therapist is required Chapter 486 Section 486.021
6. Who may supervise Physical Therapist Assistants?
The only person who is permitted to supervise a Physical Therapist Assistant is a Physical Therapist. Chapter 486 Section 486.021
7. What are the supervision requirements of a PTA in an acute setting vs. a non-acute setting?
The Physical Therapist Assistant should no provide services to patient for an acute setting such as inpatient or hospital unless a Physical Therapist is present for direct supervision. Contrary to this, a Physical Therapist Assist can perform physical therapy treatment for patients who are not in this type of setting (such as outpatient) with general supervision with accessibility to telecommunication at all times with the Physical Therapist. A Physical Therapist Assistant is allow to take the NPTE examination 3 times. If the student does not pass the exam on the first three trials, the students will need to complete additional education prescribed by the board. With the completion of additional education the student will be able to take the exam for two more occasion, if the student fails to pass a second time, it will no longer be eligible to take the examination.
